Poison Bridget Zinn Books

I read about this book shortly before it came out--and the tragedy of the author dying before it was released. As a librarian and avid reader, Zinn knows middle graders well (older elementary and middle school--but high schoolers will read this, too)--the story has a delightful mix of fantasy, friendship turned rivalry (or is it?), light romance--and a pig! I just wish Zinn had been given the chance to write more stories. You can still read her tweets on Twitter (always positive), see her video as "The World's Fastest Librarian" on YouTube, and visit her website. I wish the book was still in print so that I didn't have to go to resellers, but I'm glad I was able to get 2 unread copies for my school's library.

Poison Bridget Zinn Books Reviews

Can she save the kingdom with a piglet?

Such a charming read that will charm the socks out of you. This journey I went on with these characters is one I will never forget - one of the reasons is because of a pig sidekick! Hell yes!!

This journey the MC went on is one full of peril, surprises and discovery. I had such a lovely time reading this book, slowly uncovering the secrets that lies within the kingdom and characters. So brilliantly written and explained.

Full of poisons, princesses, action, adventure, witches, visions, secrets, trust and romance.

Perfect for readers of fantasy adventure romances.
First and Foremost I want to take a minute to honor the author that wrote this book and passed away before it was released. Your memory will live on!

This book was VERY HARD for me to rate and review! While it was a very adorable read and had very cute parts in it, it was a big let down. The reason I say that is because I thought it was going to be a dark twist type of fairytale. But it wasn't, it was actually the totally opposite. While that's okay, I probably would of read it anyway. But it was a disappointment when I started to read it and it became more of a lighthearted, sweet fairytale mix! Not what I was expecting!

Okay, Now that being said, after I got over the fact that it was not the book I thought it was, I decided to read it anyway because I bought the book and I wanted to honor the author, plus it wasn't a bad start to a book!

This book was an enjoyable light read. Very Cute and age appropriate for kids probably over 12. It had fun parts that made the story come alive on different levels then I'm use to! And one of those parts was when a cute little pig named Rosie came into the picture. She was a tracker pig...lol! Yeah, you heard it right! You put a basket around Rosie's neck, with an item of the person your trying to find and she'll lead you right to them! Such a cute little piggy.

Okay, Here's the Plot

A potioner named Kyra or Kitty as they call her is on the mission to save their kingdom. She seen what the future holds if not alerted, but the bad part about it is that she has to be the one to change the future! But what Kara has to do is far more then she would of ever of imagined. She has to kill the princess to stop her vision from coming true! But that's not the worst part of it. The worst part of it is that the Princess she has to kill isn't just any princess, she's her best friend the Princess and soon to be queen of their kingdom!

How can Kara kill her best friend, really she's her only friend! But if she doesn't their kingdom will turn evil! How can Kara do nothing when she knows it is her that must stop the princess and save the kingdom from evil taking it over! She can't! So that's when Kara's journey starts!

When the book starts off it's after she tried to kill the princess and failed! She is a trained potioner and NEVER misses her poison darts from their targets! But she misses for the first time ever! And now she's a fugitive on the run from the Queens guards, while also searching for the princess again to get the next poison dart right! She meets a very interesting man on her journeys that just keeps popping up everywhere Kara goes. Who is he and what does he want??? And will Kara be able to stop the princess in time to save their kingdom or will the princess evade Kara and succeed in destroying the kingdom??? Well if you want those answers and more then you'll have to read and find out!

This was a very different type of book then I'm use to, but still very enjoyable. If you like sweet, cute fairytales then this is for you! Overall, I finally decided that I would give this book a 4 stars rating!

When I realized that I was doing female assassins for my thesis, I bought this one basically without thinking about it. I’d wanted it for a while, and it seemed PERFECT. This synopsis looked A+ on par, everything I wanted, going to be the best thing ever. While I don’t regret buying the paperback … I was wrong.

In concept, this book was everything I could have wanted. There was an engaging plot line, strong female friendships, hilarious anti-trope situations and action. It had all the right parts, and Zinn’s storytelling ability is the most hilarious fun I’ve had in a while. The sass is beautiful and I was honestly laughing out loud as the book progressed. When the book started out, I never expected in a million years to have a final rating of two stars.

But then the romance happens and the book forgets that it has any of those other parts that made it so amazing.

Kyra is a really amazing character. Let me make that clear. She knows what she wants, is passionate and good at her job, but also isn’t afraid to make the hard choices for what she thinks is the greater good. This girl tries to kill her best friend. KILL HER. She’s fearless to the point of pigheadedness (pun intended) and determined to save the day at whatever cost.

So why is so much of this book lost to romance?

It’s not even really good romance, I’m going to be honest. It’s one of those cliche, “guy shows up and he’s kind of funny and she likes him but she tries to get rid of him but he keeps showing back up” and yadda yadda yadda. From there the cliches–which it seemed at first this book was actively fighting against–just kept piling up. I don’t want to spoil anything, but let me tell you … by the time the ending rolled around, I wanted to hit myself in the head with the book over and over.

I still can’t even comprehend how such a short book technically had all the components it promised and still had this much romance. It boggles my mind. The story line about her ex-boyfriend? Priceless. Her strong friendship with her best friend who she’s trying to kill? Amazing. The inner turmoil you find that she’s facing? Well done. But, because of the romance, these plot points got shrunk so much that it feels as though they’re barely there.

I wanted to like this book, I really did. In terms of my thesis, this book will actually work out really well for me but as a reader … I am sad. It was a amusing ride and a well written one, but all the promise that it showed stalled and floundered. Hence, two stars.
