Smart Girls Get What They Want Sarah Strohmeyer Books

SUCH A CUTE, HEARTWARMING, FUN AND IMPORTANT READ!

The friendship between Gigi, Bea and Neerja was pretty much my favorite part of this book. IT WAS SO GREAT reading a book where friendship, especially between girls, takes the front seat and it's such thoroughly talked about. A++

Other aspects of this book that I loved and that I think make it completely stand out from other books in the same genre:

- The debunking of many high school stereotypes! And the sense of unity and community between the students, that cared about all types of things, from classic literature to prom dresses.

- Parental figures that were actually supporting and positive! Plus, the other figures of authority in the school that were not oblivious to their student's problems.

- Showing how much studying is involved when you are in HS.

Overall, great story that filled me with joy, and that represents an important addition to the YA department and pop culture, it's a gentle reminder that we are all complex beings and more than "meets the eye".

Smart Girls Get What They Want Sarah Strohmeyer Books Reviews

I seriously LOVED this book. Gigi’s narrative is charming in a really smart and witty way, and I love her friendships. If you like books about friendships, or books about smart girls, THIS book is for you. The friendship between Gigi, Bea, and Neerja is awesome. It’s so rare to see a YA friendship that’s this refreshing. There’s a few disagreements between the three of them, but in general they’re supportive of each other and have each other’s back in a way that feels very real and inspiring without being sappy or sentimental. Gigi even takes up skiing just for Bea!

As a total overachiever and “smart” kid in high school, I totally get Gigi. One of the things that Gigi has to deal with throughout this book is that people think that she thinks she’s better than them, which is why she’s so quiet and studious around them. While Gigi does at times judges others too quickly only to learn the truth, I so identify with this! It was better in high school, but in Junior High I was quiet and always reading a book, and I was told people sometimes thought I was stuck-up. Never a fun fact to be confronted with!

Gigi and her friends really are as smart as the summary makes it sound, and I love that. All three of them are strong characters in their own right, and while Gigi is the main character, the other two’s story lines are just as engaging and interesting, especially since they intertwine often.

As you can probably tell from the summary, there’s some romance in this book, and I have to say I really like how it’s explored. Will, as well as Mike(the other love interest), are both such well-done, complex characters. Will is typically a “really good guy”, EXCEPT where it comes to relationships. And I can’t say anything without giving away some of the ending, but let me just say I love Gigi’s reaction to him in the end. Go Gigi! Mike is such a developed character, and as Gigi sees his development, so does the reader.

And perhaps that’s what makes this book so good the development. The development of each of these characters is the strongest part of this book, which makes me love it even more, especially since I’m such a character-driven reader. There’s a lot of fun antics and a few serious moments in the book that definitely help this book along, but even without all that, this book would be worth it for the characters alone.

Final Impression If you’re in the mood for a light, funny, but also smart read, Smart Girls Get What They Want is a perfect choice. I didn’t know what I was going into when I started, but I have to say I came out LOVING this book and wanting to be best friends with Gigi and HER friends. Their friendship was perfect and I loved it!
This tale of friendship, relationships and redefining yourself without losing your true self is a sure fire hit. Gigi, Bea and Neerja have always idolized Neerja's older sister. She was at the top of her high school class and got accepted into an Ivy League college--everything the girls are striving for themselves. When they discovered Neerja's secret, they realized that maybe being at the top academically when having to sacrifice everything for it, is not all that they thought.

They make a bargain with each other to try new things during their sophomore year. Bea and Gigi end up joining the ski team; Neerja the school play and Gigi runs for student representative on the city council. While breaking out of their shells, the four of them learn that being smart is one thing but standing up for themselves, what they believe in and that they need to give others a chance are equally as important to staying at the top of their class.

This is such an amusing and lighthearted read filled with laugh-out-loud moments, light romance and positive role models. I enjoyed the well developed characters, especially the growth that we can see in Gigi. She does not have it all figured out by the end of the book but she definitely has learned not to judge others which is an important lesson for us all to remember.

I enjoy Ms. Strohmeyer's writing style--it is witty, well paced and engaging. I look forward to reading her second young adult contemporary novel--How Zoe Made Her Dreams (Mostly) Come True, which came out in April. To me, her first novel had everything I hoped it would have in this type of contemporary fiction and I hope I will find the same in the next one.
4 Platypires Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer.

This was a quick, fun, clean YA read. I really enjoyed reading this novel. The girls weren't your typical angst ridden teenage girl. They were smart girls who had goals they wanted to achieve in life. They knew that there was more to life than just high school. Yet, they realized they didn't want to miss out on experiences before it was too late.
The writing was pretty good but at first it took a while for the characters to grow on me. After the first few chapters I was hooked. I really liked the smart , flirty banter between characters. Who knew the periodical table could be romantic? lol.
I was also surprised that this was my second novel by Sarah Strohmeyer. Previously, I read the Cinderella Pact and didn't like it that much. I think I much prefer her YA novels. There was just a huge difference with character development and pacing of both novels. Smart Girls Get What They Want is the winner in my book.
Overall, this was a really good read and would recommend for fans of YA.
