Baby Drive South Southern Roads Stephanie Bond 9780778329442 Books

The characters in this are well developed. Having inadvertently read blood 3 first it was nice to see how the characters started. I grew up in a small town so I understand the small town lifestyle. And yes everyone knows your business & your parents know it before you get home too.

But it is an idyllic way to grow up.

Excellent series.

Baby Drive South Southern Roads Stephanie Bond 9780778329442 Books Reviews

Part of a great series. I believe everyone will enjoy.
Downloading books to my is an excellent way to read. Enjoying the stories as they progress about this small town.
I don't know about anyone else, but I read to escape reality and this book was just what I needed. I love Stephanie Bond's writing. Her prose flow becomes a deep pool of immersion and her characters embed themselves into my imagination with complex personalities and passionate stories. It's the quintessential book that you literally can't put down, which makes it immeasurable in how great it really is. I'm a fan!
I have liked some of Stephanie Bond's books before, although she's never been one of my favorite authors. I started with the free novella introduction, Baby I'm Yours. That was OK. Then I bought Baby, Drive South - thinking to read them in order. It was awful. I got Baby Don't Go from the library (at least I didn't waste any money on it) and it was just as bad. I couldn't get more than a few chapters into either one. The characters aren't relatable - caricatures and stereotypes totally lacking in depth or likeability. The books felt formulaic and thrown together and the sexism and misogyny was out of control.
I really wish there had been a review to warn me off before I spent any money on one of these books. There are so many fabulous contemporary romances out there with decent plots and likeable characters that don't waste your time or insult your intelligence. These aren't among them.
It's a fun book. Alot of laughing and aaahhing! It also has people coming together to complete an extra large project. Three brothers working together to get their hometown back. Try the whole series. They're all great.
I'm moving backwords for reviews. But so far it's been very hard to put these down. Porter Armstrong gets himself in a mess with the Little Lady Doc as the town gents (men workers) get to know the women who have arrived to help rebuild the town while trying to keep the men from loosing their minds. Hmmm... 0

IF you like southern values and stories, this series is very good! If you live in the city, you may not want this book. It's a very good book and I can't wait for the 3rd. I might have to reread the 2nd again.
Small town southern good ol' boys vs big city northerner women - It is perhaps a testament to Stephanie Bond's writing skill that she manages to tip toe her way through this minefield of clichéd stereotypes managing to stay just this side of humorous without ever getting overly offensive.

Anyway, men rebuilding a tornado ravaged abandoned town are getting awfully hormonal with no release (read between the lines) in sight. So they place an ad in a recession ravaged northern city's paper asking for some .... well companionship I guess .... because to tell you the truth other than their much sought after vaginae, it really isn't quite clear what all these northern woman are doing there. But what is clear is that they are bossy, opinionated, and so ill suited for the "Southern" lifestyle (some of them don't even eat meat!) that you could practically make a sitcom out of this plot. Hey, maybe Stephanie Bond is hoping to sell her second tv pilot.

Along for the ride comes Doctor Nikki Salinger, who is running away from her own disaster of a failed engagement to a total citified northern boy schmuck. She immediately runs up against of block of "southern male stubbornness" when all the Good Ol' Boys of the town are aghast at the thought of an educated woman doctor and prefer instead to have their aches and pains treated by some local who wraps infected toes in bacon.

yes really.

And yes really, this book does supposedly take place in current times - even though poor Nikki does have to climb to the top of the water tower to get cell phone reception every time she wants to check her voicemail.

Then there's looovvvveeeee in the air because even though Nikki is educated, prickly and not as pretty as all the other women, there's just something about her that catches the fancy of Porter Armstrong.

It's almost impossible to read this book without humming the theme song from Dukes of Hazard although Petticoat Junction might be a good alternative.

Oh it's summer. Go ahead and enjoy yourself. LOL
